Recreation
Fly fishing at Alphonse
offers world-class fly-fishing, primarily for bonefish, barracuda and trevally. On nearby St François, there is a natural reservoir virtually unexploited. Bonefish up to 7 kg may be caught and reasonably good fly-fishermen may catch 50 in a day. Even beginners have caught 20 on their first day. Several world records have been claimed including four within the space of one week. The sandy flats of St Francois, which can be reached from Alphonse within half a hour, is considered as one of the best spot in the world for fly-fishing.
